Basel-Landschaft Administrative Court overturns admission cap for medical doctors

In the canton of Basel-Landschaft, according to media reports, the maximum number of doctors for practice and hospital ambulatory care decided by the canton no longer applies after a ruling by the Administrative Court on January 18, 2023.

The cantonal government had apparently violated the separation of powers and the principle of legality - in Basel-Landschaft, the law does not provide for a direct order to stop medical practice by the cantonal government; rather, the legislative procedure had to be followed.
